Know Diabetes by Heart

Funded by the American Diabetes Association, NM Department of Health, and NMSU Cooperative Extension

The Know Diabetes by Heart™ initiative seeks to reduce cardiovascular events and deaths among people with type 2 diabetes. We offer a free 30-45 minute health lesson that covers the link between diabetes and heart disease and ways you can lower your risk of heart attack, heart failure, and stroke.

“This is a good time to protect yourself from diabetes-related heart disease and COVID by making lifestyle changes that can help you improve your overall health and better manage your diabetes. It’s good for your heart health and kidney health and will contribute to a longer, healthier life,” said Eduardo Sanchez, MD, MPH, FAAFP, the American Heart Association’s chief medical officer for prevention.
